Marketing Is An Integral Part Of Copywriting

I recently came across a few people who did not realize just how much marketing expertise is involved in effective copywriting. I landed into copywriting after 20 years in sales and marketing. Copywriting was an obvious and natural choice. Not because of my writing skills. But because of my marketing skills.

Most copywriters pick up their marketing expertise through their copywriting assignments. Copywriters are trained to look into the motivations and reasons for results. It’s natural for us to pick up marketing skills.

Marketing has a very large element of research to it. So does copywriting.

Although copywriters and marketers may spend more time researching different angles, they do basically cover the same areas.

Todays Web Copywriting requires quite a bit of market research as well as marketing strategy. Let’s face it, the copy you need on a web page may appear to be short. But you will only be able to find the right web copy through careful research and marketing strategy.

This is why most people with a sales or marketing background find it easier to get into the copywriters mind-set. Copywriters continually strive to think, feel and react exactly like their ideal client.

It is true that most outsiders think of copywriters as writers. From this side of the fence writing often seems like the minor element to copywriting. Marketing is such an integral part of copywriting it permeates all aspects of the skill.

As you can tell I have been busy changing blog themes, both here and on my Live Portfolio, Get International Clients. So with busy days I looked for a light evening read.

Asinine Advertising, How stupid and unethical advertising costs you money! by Herchell Gorden Lewis.

I have been lucky to attend an event where Hershell gave a live presentation. The man has style. A style rare to come by. He is extremely entertaining and a great word smith. This book is just as good as his presentation.

The title says it is about advertising. But it is for everyone who buys things. It gives astute insight into the American consumer society. But I don’t think it is limited to a portrait of life in America.

Read this book if you want to spend a couple of hours smiling, chuckling and laughing. It is a very relaxing book to read after a long day working brainlessly changing WordPress themes.

Non-native English speakers beware, you might miss most of the fun. There is a lot of play on words and it is North American specific English, and probably even generation specific language. Also, keep in mind that Herschell speaks in a style you do not really find today.

This is part of the reason why he is so refreshing. The other part is because he speaks his mind bypassing the politically correct communication style more common today.

This is the second special notice in one week.

I’ve been busy setting up different things for all of my readers. One of the ideas I have been toying with is setting up a Blog Carnival for all of the international readers.

I use blog carnivals to get my articles out to a wider audience, and this has been working great for me. I submit articles on this website to blog carnival.

I even use a blog submission service for my other blog Get International Clients. I chose to do this through CyberCashology – Robert just has the best price going for this kind of service out there. I also like the fact that he travels and caters his products to his international clients’ needs.

You don’t need to use a blog carnival submission service. I do because I have seen the value in getting word about my articles out to as many people as possible. But you can submit you articles to one blog carnival at a time… and I also do this too. Yep, a bit overboard. But hey, when your blogs are new you have to do something to get people to read your articles.

Blog Carnival Submissions Help Improve Your SEO

Robert just published a comparison on how his blog carnival submission service has helped his clients increase their Alexa and PageRank ratings. This article gave results for May 6th. And I think I recognized the stats for Get International Clients on there – third on his list.

Yes, you want low numbers on your Alexa rank, and new websites start off with a score of several million. And you want a high Page Rank score. But these scores are easy to improve with:

Consistent entries with new content
Consistent growth of your online presence – translate that to growing the number of websites linking to you, and not making your website as big as you possibly can.

This is why submitting the links to your articles helps your search engine results. And the proof of your increased online presence can be seen in the tools such as Alexa and PageRank ratings.

But if Robert had held off and compared scores today, May 10th, it would have been even better. My Alexa ranks dropped dramatically last night. Now down to 700,000′s for both websites.

Hosting A Blog Carnival

Hosting a blog carnival is a lot of work if you really want to bring value to the articles in your list. To be able to present the articles nicely to your readers you should preview them to make sure they interest your own readers and, well, you do need to read the articles. Then there is the actual writing of the blog post. Your readers appreciate your comments.

The thing is, I’ve had many comments on my articles, either on the blogs or on the social sites where people find them too. The wide variety of questions is interesting.

But what is more interesting to me is seeing readers from all over. Seeing how they are getting international clients. That is truly inspiring. We should share this. So here is the first step…
