The need for marketing segmentation is all around us. Here are several examples of segmentation in marketing:

Web Marketing

To get the full value out of your web marketing you need to test and track your results.

A/B testing is simple enough to put in place. In fact, pay attention and you will notice that all of the most successful web marketers test their marketing results. This is how they learn how to sell to their markets online.

A testing strategy helps you learn more about your markets. It also shows you how to sell to your markets.

Just starting an international marketing campaign? Imagine starting your week with this question:

What am I going to test this week?

And if you have more than one product to promote online, you can easily begin every day with:

What am I going to test today?

The secret is learning more and adjusting your web marketing step-by-step. This is how small companies take the online advantage over big companies.

Email Marketing

Effective email marketing also involves testing and tracking results.

Direct response marketers are now testing their campaigns online first. Before investing in mailing their direct mail packages, they want to know what works best.

This is another example of segmentation for testing.

Multichannel Marketing

Today’s marketer has markets using different communication platforms, or channels. Communication through different marketing channels is an obvious necessity.

But how do you choose which channel? Well, you need to:

Pick up the conversation with your market at the right spot.

Or, continue the conversation further down the road.

This is more of a market segmentation.

International Marketing

For successful international business development you need country-specific marketing. And even culture-specific marketing.

This is also involves segmenting your marketing.

Is Marketing Segmentation Easy?

Segmentation certainly appears to be a necessity. But there is a slight barrier to segmentation. It appears to multiply the work.

It is also interesting to note the trend to avoid extra work and look for easy solutions.

Does segmentation offer an easy business advantage for the businesses that make the effort?

You can also think of segmentation as bringing more clarity. And clarity makes business easier.

This week I seem to have targeted Email, although it was really unintentional. If you have a post that you would like included in a future review, email me the link and I will try to include it. Isabel Lapointe presents Reach them, Speak their Language: Email in Recession part 1 posted at CakeMail . saying Now is a good time to really start thinking globally: “Building an international clientele can help insulate your organization from localized economic slumps.” Anna Billstrom presents Web 2.0 & Email: FriendFeed posted at Adventures in Email Marketing saying “Trolling through the Feedback room on Friendfeed, I noticed a post and a very nice feature, that again sets apart Friendfeed from their competitors. Consumer marketing systems could also learn something from this.” Laura presents Reputation: part 2 posted at Word to the Wise saying “Yesterday, I posted about reputation as a combination of measurable statistics, like bounce rates and complaint rates and spamtrap hits. But things have changed…” DJ Waldow presents Top 4 Reasons Why Your Email Failed posted at BrontoBlog saying “What are the components that determine success/failure of an email campaign.
And this can be a huge task for small businesses. But there is one avenue where country-specific marketing would actually be quite easy to set up. And this is with:

Email Marketing

International web businesses should seize this opportunity. According to Marketing Sherpa, not many people are actually doing any international email marketing. An opportunity is there.

An Opportunity To Seize

Here are some of the reasons why you should start international email marketing today:

North American companies have the upper hand for international sales, their dollar and their wares are now very cheap to customers in other countries… and this trend appears to be here for a while.

Many companies continue to increase the number of international prospects to their mailing lists.

An international client base can help businesses through rough local economies.

These benefits should put international email marketing on your priority list.

There are challenges in international email marketing. But the opportunities are also big for those who jump in now. Strategic email marketing can make the difference in a bad economy.

The Timing Is Right

There have already been several web marketing tactics that have gone through various stages of market maturity. It has always been easier to jump in early before markets get tired of a specific marketing technique. And it should not be any different with international email marketing.

The country-specific segmentation is relatively easy to implement in email marketing. This makes it a great marketing tool for a broad international audience.

With email marketing it is also easy to tweak your country-specific communication. You can use split-testing to find out what works where.

And the end result is that you will increase your country-specific market intelligence first hand through email marketing.

Remember, many companies now test their direct marketing campaigns online first. It’s faster and cheaper than with traditional direct mail. And they are doing it to test and find their best campaigns. An international email campaign can prove a valuable source of information on your foreign markets.

Why not use international email marketing to test your international markets and gain a competitive edge?
