This weekend I watched the movie Australia. This is the story of an English lady in Australia set in the 1930’s and how she an Aborigine child become part of her life. This movie gives quite a few insights into the life style of these native Australians.

A saying came to mind watching this film:

“Do in Rome as the Romans do”

Life used to be different for the Aborigines, just like the native Americans. When you try to understand different cultures you notice how the past effects culture. Although Aborigines and native Americans now have altered styles, you can still see traces of their heritage today.

These are fairly obvious examples where you can see how history and outside events effect cultures.

What happens when you look within one culture? It’s often difficult to see how a culture has evolved over time. And yet, the past often answers many questions and helps us to understand some cultural differences.
