Movies To Understand Cultural Differences

Culture Movies

Yesterday we looked at how cross-cultural communication difficulties are created through different cultural perspectives.  Acknowledging these different perspectives is the first step.  The second step is understanding how these different perspectives, or different viewpoints, influence your communication.

Once you see how these different points of view can get in the way of your conversation, it is easier to side-step the hurdles.  This takes practice.  The key is to stay focused on what you want to get out of the conversation.  This is where you really begin to develop effective cross-cultural communication.

Yesterday we looked at Asian American movies to try to identify changes in perspectives.

Today let’s look at movies with another large ethnic community in the United States.

Try to identify the different cultural perspectives.  This time try to dig deeper into understanding the different perspectives.  Of course you can do this with any of the other movies in this series too.

Hispanic or Latino Movies

  1. El Norte
  2. Lone Star
  3. Mi Familia
  4. Stand and Deliver
  5. The Milagro Beanfield War

Let me know if you have any other other movies to add to this list.
