Watching movies like these can help you become aware of differences. In cross-cultural communication this awareness is the first step towards cultural sensitivity.
Here are the three steps people go through to attain cultural sensitivity:
- Cultural awareness of cultural differences
- Learning to recognize your own standards and foreign standards as different ways of life
- Recognizing what makes your own identity
When you watch movies like this you have the choice:
- Simply sit back and enjoy the entertainment
- Push yourself to see the differences and ask more questions to discover the reasons behind the differences
Developing cross-cultural communication skills requires personal investment.
Let me know if you have any other other movies to add to this list.
