Movies Take You Different Places

Culture Movies

Last night I watched the television series “The Lost Room“. This is a story about a motel room key that opens every door and leads into the same motel room every time you use it. When you go into this motel room, close the door and open it again, it opens any other door you want, wherever you want.  It is an interesting idea: one key to take you wherever you want.

Just like good books, movies can take us to different places. For many of us, this can a first step in understanding different cultures. When you strongly feel the differences between two cultures, this first step can be useful.

The more you become familiar with other cultures, the easier it is to communicate with them.

It is not always easy to get cultural insights by observing differences.  Sometimes you need a link, or a special room linking the two worlds.  This is when it is easy to hear stories of how others with similar backgrounds have learned to adapt to different cultures.

People Abroad

Here are some movies of stories of people abroad:

This type of movie may not teach you enough about cross-cultural communication, but this can be a stepping stone.  This type of movie makes it easier to transition into a more open mindset.

There are more movies coming next week too.

Let me know if you have any other other movies to add to this list.
