International Sales Best Practices

Today Jeffrey Gitomer’s Principle of Sales Greatness is another great tactic to get more international sales. Let’s see how it fits in with one of the cross-cultural communication tips we covered last month.

International Sales Success

Most people will acknowledge that creativity is important in business success… and even in successful sales. But most people believe they cannot do anything about their own level of creativity. That is a pity because creativity is something you can learn.

Last Month’s Cross-Cultural Communication Tip 5

Cross-Cultural = Creativity

I believe that everyone who develops their cross-cultural skills also develops their creativity.  This is because you encounter so many new situations and you need creativity to get through them.

In fact, I can remember finding myself in two very difficult cross-cultural situations where a creative approach was the only way out.  Words just would not have worked.  I needed a creative approach because only a response in action could keep the sales negotiation going, but this action had to address several different criteria… and it was not directly related to the task at hand.

Cross-Cultural = Flexibility

Another reason why cross-cultural encounters require creativity is, because of the cultural differences, you must operate with flexibility.  Cultural differences make it difficult to plan everything.  There are always different things that pop up… all over the place.

With experience you become better at planning and allowing for differences, but you can never anticipate all of the repercussions of the cultural differences.  Creativity helps you respond…  creativity also helps you to differentiate yourself and dominate.

So…

Where does creativity come from?  You baby! – Jeffrey Gitomer
