International Sales Best Practices

Networking is a natural element of business. One of the things that often surprises me is how business professionals seem to forget what networking is as soon as it involves people abroad. Let’s look at another one of Jeffrey Gitomer’s 12.5 Principles of Sales Greatness and see how it fits in with our cross-cultural communication tips to get more international sales.

International Sales Success

Networking in an international environment is often:

  • Connecting with people in your foreign markets
  • Market research leading to international business intelligence

Quote From Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Red Book Of Selling

It’s not work.  It’s network.

Networking Is Networking

First of all, I have to say that networking is the same everywhere.  It is simply connecting with other people.  Everyone does it.  Everywhere. The actions are the same. You still:

  • Pick up the phone
  • Drive over to meet someone
  • Attend events
  • Ask acquaintances to introduce you
  • Introduce yourself

Of course this is obvious.  The difference is that the people are different. The cross-cultural communication is different.

Enjoy The Apprenticeship

There is only one way to acquire cross-cultural communication skills, and that is to jump in and communicate.

There is one huge advantage to networking for international sales.

  • You increase your international skills as well as your international business intelligence

…every time you interact with people in your international market.  Do not underestimate this.

The reason is because you need to make a personal effort to adjust your own communication.

Your:

  • Attention
  • Focus
  • Investment
  • Curiosity

in the conversation is heightened.  You get more out of it. Networking becomes natural to do.

So…

Networking works well when you employ the two-word secret: Show up. – Jeffrey Gitomer
