International Marketing Review – Marketing to Social Media

International Marketer Review Saturday Blog Carnival

As always, marketing to social media has an important place in the hearts and minds of people with an online business. When you are not marketing to your own culture there are additional difficulties in using online marketing.

Below are some posts that caught my eye this week that I thought you might enjoy. None are a sales pitch or promote any special tool or service, but cover the overall topic.

As you read these posts, think about social media ideas that you can use to connect with your market. that is in a different culture. I would love to hear your comments.

Matthew Ringer @smallbizbee presents Marketing to the Social Web and the New Rules of Engagement posted at Small Biz Bee saying “With all the talk around here lately about social media’s place in business, customer interactions and service recovery, and marketing strategies for growth, I’ve been thinking more about how the world of marketing and doing business has changed with the digital/social *revolution*. And more specifically has my business embraced the change?”

Travis Huff presents Social Media: Marketing Magic or Madness posted at Real-Time Outsource: Social Media Management, Training, & Staffing saying “There appears to be little doubt that the social media networking tidal wave has hit the hotel industry. To varying degrees, many hotels and hotel companies are attempting to implement some active level of social media marketing. Whether it is Facebook, Twitter, corporate blogs, LinkedIn, or a myriad of other platforms, social media is rapidly changing the networking landscape. In addition to SEO, now social media optimization (SMO), online reputation management (ORM), are emerging as viable factors in managing effective online visibility.”

Erik Qualman @2equalman Be Stubborn With Your Social Media Vision, but Flexible With Your Plan posted at SearchEngineWatch saying “The difference between a social media vision and plan is quite simple. The vision is the goal, where you want to get to. The plan is composed of the tactical pieces that will help you get there. I’m a huge proponent of “launching and learning,” or starting with a general idea of the plan and refining it along the way. At the same time, that doesn’t mean just doing something for the sake of doing it. ”

Christine Fife @chrissfife presents Integrate Social Media Tools Into Business, Not Marketing Campaigns posted at Sys-Con Media saying “So taking this definition and looking at the excerpt from his recent post it seems to me that it would be more holistic to think of utilizing social media tools and online conversation locations to engage with influencers, customers and prospects as a part of what your company offers rather than simply as an extension of a traditional marketing campaign.”

Liza Peiffer @marcon presents Social Media Marketing: The lovechild of work and play? With some thoughts from Chris Abraham posted at Marketing Conversation saying “Where is social media going? Everyone has their opinions, but no one really knows. Still, it sure is fun to predict. I took some time to talk to Chris Abraham, your favorite Marketing Conversation blogger, about some of what he sees in his crystal ball for social media. But before you can reach the future, I suppose you begin with the past and present.”

What have these stories inspired in you? What social media ideas do you have to connect with an international market? I would love to hear your comments.
