International Marketing Review – World Water Day
Two buckets of safe water a day is the minimum a child needs to live, yet 4000 children die EVERY DAY because they don’t even have that. For many, the dangers lie in collecting water — a job often handed out to girls and women. Instead of attending school, a child may walk several hours a day to the nearest water source. Children’s health improves and school attendance rises when water-pumps are installed in schools. UNICEF (official site) works around the globe installing latrines and pumps but 1.1 billion people still drink unclean water. Basic sanitation and hygiene education has a dramatic effect on reducing mortality and poverty.

Did you know?

- It takes 101 gallons to make one pound of wool or cotton.
- It takes 1,851 gallons to refine one barrel of crude oil.
- It takes 62,600 gallons to produce one ton of steel.”

Unfortunately, I discovered the U.N. designation too late to plan anything. And, I’m pathetic at planning events. That said, March 22, 2009 is a Sunday. I’d like to have a water festival on that date. ”

Hi William,
It is easier to participate in this sort of thing when you know about it in advance. And I also suffer from being too late to really do something about it. I need to spend some more time looking for a good international events calendar – have not found one that I like yet. If anyone here knows of one, please share it with us!
