In times of crisis and depressing news reports about the economy taking a dive, cutting all ties of job security and go for it on your own isn’t the first thing that comes to mind for most people. But some are, luckily, courageous enough to take that leap into the wilderness of being a self employed business owner.”
Tamara Gielen @tamaragielen presents Purchasing email lists is NEVER a good idea. Ever. posted at BeRevelant saying “Companies that advertise that they sell email lists “for as low as 60$” should never be trusted. Where did they obtain these email addresses? Did they scrape them off a bunch of websites or did they use other shady tactics like that? By purchasing a list and sending a campaign to that list, you’ll be labeled as a spammer instantly. So stay away from them. Don’t. Ever. Purchase. Lists. Period.”
Henriette Weber @redsoda presents Don’t mess with the internets: Belkin is hiring people to do positive reviews of their products posted at ToothlessTiger saying “Amazon runs a site called mechanical turk, which is a side where people can go and get paid to do stuff that computers can’t do. They get a small amount of money for each task they do. He finds out that an employee at Belkin has posted a task that is called “write a positive 5/5 review for product on website” – for a belkin router that has consistently gotten bad reviews. wow. I really hope this is not going to be a standard way of doing business.”
Nicola Williams @tripalong presents Bettmeralp, Switzerland posted at Tripalong saying “It feels like a secret. When it appeared in the 19th century, the expression referred to those fabrics whose colors faded fast when exposed to sunlight; the sun “swallowed” the colors, as if for lunch.”

Liron Tocker @lirontocker presentsCreating a mobile timeline blog (interconnected moblogging) posted at Liron.de saying “One of the things I could never really wrap my head around was the complete and total failure of moblogging as a platform and as idea. Moblogs had a (very) short renaissance period in 2003 when camera phones made their mainstream debut (yes, it was only 6 years ago) and carriers were heavily pushing MMS. There were a few problems back then – MMS to email was extremely expensive and users were heavily restricted by the types of content they could upload – moblogs never really caught on in the way blogging did – even though they probably should have.”

Delphine Ménard @notafish presents Choosing a Name: The Last Name posted at Not an Endive saying “Most of our societies are rather patriarcal. You get the name of your father. Even the ones that sometimes think themselves much more open and allow women to keep their names really are patriarchal. Take Portugal, which collates both the father’s and the mother’s name in a unique new name. This ends up in children having different names from that of their parents. Which isn’t understood by French authorities, at least a few years back, who had no idea how to take care of my French cousin marrying a Portuguese man and which name was really his (different from both of his parents).”

Gita Malinovska @gita_m presents Less than half twitter users have blogs posted at If there is a will, there is a way.. saying “Today I decided to start using Technorati more serious. While I have created account like few months ago I wasn’t using it at all. So I decided to go through all the people I’m following on twitter (and most of them are IT persons based in Ireland) and add their blogs to the favorites in technorati. And believe me or not, it didn’t took me a lot of time. However I was surprised that less than half people on twitter has blogs.
