Cross-Cultural Communication Challenge – Expand Your Mindset

The last Cross Cultural Communication Challenge Tip this month gets us to focus our attention on ourselves. Effective cross-cultural communication is just as much about our own personal development as it is about contact with other cultures.

  • One of the biggest barriers to good cultural skills is our own negative gut reactions to things we are not used to.

We leave this monthly challenge on mindset with one of the most fundamental cross-cultural skills.  This is not always easy to work through.  Many people have different interpretations for “tolerance”.   There are different categories of intolerance.

Do you find it “normal” to be intolerant of people who wear blue or people with blond hair?  Of course, this is not “normal”.  You might have  personal preferences, but your personal preferences do not make you intolerant of others.

The more you get to know other cultures, the more you become tolerant of the differences that separate you.

Cross-Cultural Communication Challenge Tip #31
