Different cultures have different ways of showing respect. It is not uncommon for people with international skills to take years to master these cultural differences in respect.

The danger of not being aware of any cultural differences in respect is that you can come across as impolite. A perceived lack of respect is one of the most common barriers to effective cross-cultural communication.
