Clarity In Cross-Cultural Communication Tip 14
Today’s tip calls on gut instinct, or intuition.
Pay attention to the flow of the conversation and clarify anything that seems the slightest bit out of place
Different cultures do have different ways of communicating that influence the general flow of the conversation. The question here is to pick up any areas of potential misunderstandings. It is a good idea to look for this pattern when you encounter international clients. Although a different communication pattern can seem awkward when you are not used to it, you do slowly get used to it.
Once you feel comfortable communicating with your international client you should be able to detect any changes in the flow of the conversation and pick up tell-tale signs of a communication disconnect. If this happens, and you catch it early enough, simply ask questions and explain where necessary.
Use this tip as a starting point. Think about what this means to you. Not sure what you think about this? There are a few links below for suggested reading to get you started. Follow each of these tips this month to improve your cultural skills.
