I dont know whether people “really” have control over their culture. I feel the bigger question is whether culture is manipuated and controlled by powerful forces. How
by whom and for what purpose are questions that need responses in a hurry.

I like this one: Culture is a shared way of living defined by the arts, communication, values, beliefs and history – @DavidComp. I also like @lyceum’s reference to Ayn Rand’s definition. I guess I am going to have to eventually get around to reading some of her stuff.

Here is the definition that most resonates for me:

” Culture is a collective of shared values, customs, and attitudes; beliefs expressed through action, artistic or otherwise – @DoreenatDMS”

I think it works so well because it can describe a company, community or country and because it covers both the artistic and action realms.
